Union, KY. - Bill Schmidt shot a -1 70 on the opening day at the NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional to push Grand Valley State into the team lead after the opening round with a team score of 300. Northern Kentucky University is hosting the event at Lassing Pointe Golf Club in Union, Kentucky.
Kyle Murphy is tied for eighth with an opening round 75, while Jake Hamilton is tied for 13th (77). Steve Larson is tied for 18th (78) and Kevin Kremer is tied for 34th (82). Northern Kentucky is second in the team standings, four shots back with a 304. Saginaw Valley State is third (306) and Wayne State fourth (309).
Second round action will begin Tuesday morning, with the final round slated for Wednesday.
