Grand Valley State's men's golf team played in two tournaments this past weekend. The Lakers placed fourth in the Motor City Invitational held by Wayne State on Friday. GVSU then placed second at the Hilldale College Invitational held on Saturday and Sunday.
Grand Valley tallied a final score of 601 in the Motor City Invitational, 10 strokes behind first place winner Wayne State. Kevin Kremer finished first for the Lakers and sixth overall, shooting a two-day total of 143. Kyle Murphy tied for 15th place with a 151, while Bill Schmidt tied for 23rd place with a 154. Jacob Hamilton tied for 27th place, shooting a 155, and Steve Larson rounded out the scoring for the Lakers by tallying a 160.
At Hillsdale, GVSU tallied a two-day score of 621, 14-strokes behind Ferris State, who claimed the title with a 607. Schmidt tied for fourth place, shooting a 153 and Larson tied for sixth place after tallying a 154. Murphy finished right behind them with a 155, tying for ninth place, while Chris Johnson finished tied for 20th with a 160. Hamilton rounded out the scoring at Hillsdale with a 162.
The Lakers will compete at the Central/Great Lakes Super Regional in Union, Kentucky on May 4-5.
