Junior defensive lineman Michael McFadden (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) has been honored as an AFCA All-American. McFadden was just one of four juniors selected to the team. McFadden is the fifth consecutive Laker to be named to the AFCA All-American team. Receiver David Kircus was an all-american in 2001 and 2002. Kicker David Hendrix was named to the team following the 2003 campaign. McFadden is also the second consecutive defensive lineman to be named to the team after Keyonta Marshall was selected in 2004.
McFadden recorded a sack in every game on the season, including three in the national semifinal against East Stroudsburg. Michael finished the season tied for second on the sqaud with 83 total tackles. McFadden's 19 sacks rank first in school history for a single season and has moved into a tie for first place in Laker annals with 29 career sacks.
Senior center Mike Pinter (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) was selected as an ESPN academic all-american. Pinter was named to the ESPN first-team academic all-region team and was an ESPN second-team all-american selection.
Pinter was a member of a line who led the Lakers to a perfect 13-0 record and their third national championship. Grand Valley averaged 211.4 yards rushing per game and 220.3 yards passing per game behind Pinter and the rest of the Laker offensive line. Pinter will forgo his senior season of eligibility to attend dental school.
