Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State defensive tackle Keyonta Marshall was named to the AFCA Coaches' All-American First-Team it was announed by the AFCA. Marshall's selection marks the fourth straight year the Lakers have placed a player on the AFCA All-America First-Team. (David Kircus (2001, 2002), David Hendrix (2003) Keyonta Marshall (2004)).
Marshall tallied 66 total tackles, inlcuding 25 tackles for loss (-67) and six QB sacks (-31) as Grand Valley State finished 10-3 and advanced to the NCAA DII Northwest Regional final. Marshall, who was a three-time GLIAC Defensive Lineman of the Year, became Grand Valley State's first-ever, three-time all-american. During his four-year career GVSU tallied a 51-5 record, won two NCAA DII Football National Championships and made three DII title game appearances. Marshall recorded 223 total tackles and 69 tackles for loss in his career.
In addition, Marshall, DB Lucius Hawkins, SS DeJuane Boone and PK Scott Greene were named to the Daktronics All-Northwest Region First-Team is was announced Friday (Dec. 10). All four Lakers now advance to the Daktronics All-American Ballot. Junior WR Brandon Langston was a Second-team All-Northwest Regional honoree.
Marshall is a two-time First-Team Daktronics All-American, while Hawkins, Boone and Greene are on the Daktronics all-american ballot for the first time. Boone led the team in tackles (101) with three interceptions, while Hawkins tallied 65 tackles, seven tackles for loss and six interceptions. Greene converted 18-of-21 field goals and hit 45-of-46 PATs.
