GVSU Awarded #2 Seed In NCAA DII Northwest Region And Receive First-Round Bye

Indianapolis, Ind. - #1-Ranked Grand Valley State will be making its seventh straight appearance in the NCAA DII Playoffs it was announced by the NCAA Sunday (Nov. 11) morning. Grand Valley State was awarded the #2 seed in the Northwest Region and will receive a first-round bye. GVSU will host a second-round game on Saturday, Nov. 24 at a time to be determined versus the winner of #3 North Dakota-#6 Winona State matchup slated for next Saturday (Nov. 17) in Grand Forks, N.D. The University of Nebraska-Omaha (10-0), champions of the North Central Conference, claimed the top seed in the region and the other first-round bye. Nebraska-Omaha will host the winner of the #4 Central Washington-#5 Ashland meeting set for Bellingham, Washington next Saturday.

Grand Valley State, the two-time defending NCAA DII National Champions, enter the playoffs with an NCAA DII record 38-game winning streak. The Lakers' 38 straight wins is also the longest active winning streak in college football. Grand Valley State is 21-2 in playoff action since 2001 with four NCAA DII National Championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) and five title game appearances.

GVSU claimed its third straight outright GLIAC Championship with its 44-14 win over Northern Michigan Saturday (Nov. 10). GVSU set the all-time GLIAC record for consecutive wins (30) with the victory over the Wildcats. Grand Valley State held the previous mark with 29 straight GLIAC wins during the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons. The current 30-game streak began in 2004.
