Allendale, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday that Grand Valley State senior defensive lineman, Dan Skuta, has been named the Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts versus Hillsdale College last Saturday (Oct. 11).
Skuta tallied six tackles, including a career-high four QB sacks, for a losses of 27 yards, and deflected a pass in the Lakers 41-10 victory over Hillsdale College. Skuta's four QB sacks give him 30 in his career, the second-best career total in Laker annals behind's Mike McFadden's 36. Skuta leads GVSU in tackles-for-loss with nine and QB sacks with seven. He leads the GLIAC in sacks and ranks seventh in tackles-for-loss.
The NCAA Division II Football Committee also released the top 10 teams regionally. Grand Valley State (6-0) is first in Super Regional Three, followed by Minnesota Duluth (7-0), Ashland (5-2), Michigan Tech (5-2), Augustana, SD (5-2), Chadron State (6-1), Minnesota State-Mankato (5-2), Mesa State (5-2), Ferris State (5-2) and Wayne State, Nebraska (5-2).
