One of the most innovative aspects of the latest uniform design is the white Tradition helmet, which will have the full color 'GV' on each side with a special metallic blue color filling in the middle of the logo. The helmet will also have 'GVSU' on the front and 'Lakers' on the back in the same metallic blue color.
Grand Valley State will be showcasing this new uniform modification for the first time since 1996. From the first year of GVSU football in 1971 until the end of the 1995 season, the Lakers wore white helmets in every game. In 1996, Grand Valley State made the switch to black helmets and have worn those for the past 17 years, but will return to the classic, traditional look of the white helmets for Saturday night's game.
On the front of the uniform, above the Pro Full Block font numbers the word 'GVSU' is featured in black with a blue outline. The sleeves will have TV numbers on the shoulders in blue with a black outline.
In addition to the innovative white helmet, the Laker players will wear new gloves as part of the ensemble. The Adidas adiZero 5-Star 2.0 gloves with custom palm design have four-way stretch nylon compression fabric that conforms uniquely to each hand for the perfect fit. Featuring the GVSU logo, the custom palm is seamless with double-coated high-gloss silicone for maximum grip.
The Adidas TECHFIT system is built with the highest levels of construction and detail. The TECHFIT compression system includes features such as 30% lighter than traditional uniforms, increased mobility and comfort, integrated pad lock system, and included CLIMACOOL moisture management technology.
Grand Valley State and Ferris State will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at Top Taggart Field. The Lakers lead the all-time series against the Bulldogs by a 27-13-1 margin, while GVSU has won seven straight games at Ferris State. FSU's 40-24 victory last season was the first win in the series for the Bulldogs since 1999.
