Allendale, Mich. - Similar to the small collection of Division I schools that have recently joined forces with Nike to create new Pro Combat jerseys, Grand Valley State has teamed with Adidas to design all-blue uniforms which the Lakers will wear during their rivalry game with Ferris State on Oct. 22 in Allendale.
In the past month, the Nike Pro Combat uniforms have received tons of national attention, as several big name Division I programs (Oregon, Michigan State, LSU, Boise State, Ohio State, Georgia) have announced they will wear (or have already worn) the jerseys during the 2011 season. However, Grand Valley State joins various Division I teams such as Notre Dame, Michigan, Louisville, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and UCLA to sport the Adidas TECHFIT jerseys in 2011.
The TECHFITTM uniform system has a significantly steamlined compression fit allowing the uniform to enhance the players' performance on the field. Built with the highest levels of construction and detail, the TECHFIT Compression uniforms are a minimum 30% lighter than current uniforms and incorporate multiple textures/fabrics and ventilation zones without seams.
Details of the Adidas TECHFITTM Compression uniforms include: innovative designed shoulder with pad lock-down pocket, expandable flatlock stitching on the seams, iconic restriction-free, high-stretch performance collar design, strategically integrated ventilation and compression zones on both the jersey and pants, and an innovative pad lock system.
Constructed using seamless technology, multiple fabrications, fabric textures, and ventilation zones are constructed without the use of seams. The athlete benefits because it reduces abrasion, creates a true compression fit, reduces the weight of the jersey and helps increase mobility. A CLIMALITE ® moisture management system, CLIMACOOL ® and strategically placed mesh allow for increased ventilation again without the use of seams. The benefit for the athlete is less moisture accumulation and increased ventilation in heat zones that help lower the athlete's body temperature.
Grand Valley State will wear the new all-blue jerseys when the Lakers welcome West Michigan rival Ferris State to Allendale on Saturday, Oct. 22. That game is also Laker Blue Night, as all GVSU fans are encouraged to wear blue to the showdown between the Lakers and Bulldogs. Gametime at Lubbers Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
