Indianapolis, Ind. - The NCAA released its 2009 national college football attendance figures and Grand Valley State finished fourth among all Division II schools. GVSU, which has appeared in six NCAA DII National Championship games since 2001 and won four titles, averaged 9,957 fans (69,700) in seven home games. The Lakers averaged 10,844 fans during five regular season games (54,224) during the 2009 campaign.
Tuskegee led the nation in average (14,553), followed by Miles (13,750) and Texas A&M Kingsville (11,155). Saginaw Valley State (5,146) was the only other GLIAC school listed among the top 25, drawing less than half (25,728) of the Lakers' regular-season figure in the same number of home games (5). Grand Valley State's 2010 schedule will include six home games, highlighted by the season-opener on Thursday, Sept. 2 versus West Texas A&M.
