The Grand Valley State football team completed spring football practice with a scrimmage that pitted the offense against the defense in a non-traditional scoring game Saturday afternoon before 677 at Arend D. Lubbers Stadium. The defense outscored the offense by a 61-59 score.
Sophomore QB Cullen Finnerty (Brighton, Mich./Toledo) completed 12-of-21 passes for 87 yards on the day. Redshirt freshmen wide receiver Demonte Collins (Muskegon, Mich.) led all receivers with five catches for 72 yards and one TD, while redshirt freshman wide receiver Preston Garris (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) hauled in four catches for 50 yards. Sophomore running back Jordan Soper (Midland, Mich.) led the ground game with 54 yards on thirteen carries, including one TD. Redshirt freshman Rhoderick Tyler (Grand Rapids, Mich./Central) added 48 yards on eleven carries.
The defending National Champions, Grand Valley State, will open the 2004 season on, September 11th at 7 p.m. under the lights at Lubbers Stadium versus University of Indianapolis.
