QB James Stallons Set To Transfer To Grand Valley State

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State University announced that quarterback James Stallons (Staww-lons) will transfer from the University of Wisconsin to Grand Valley State. Stallons will be a member of the 2009 GVSU football team that will open play at West Texas A&M Aug. 29.

Stallons redshirted at Wisconsin in 2007 and did not see any game action as a redshirt freshman in 2008. He last played as the starting quarterback at Macomb Dakota High School in 2006 when he led the Cougars to the Division I Football State Championship.

"We are excited to have James Stallons join our football program," said head football coach Chuck Martin. "James was a highly recruited quarterback coming out of high school and we feel he has the ability to make a positive impact in our program," added Martin.

Grand Valley State returns two-time Harlon Hill Finalist Brad Iciek for his senior year in 2009. In addition to Iciek, the Lakers return 17 starters and 47 lettermen to the mix for the 2009 campaign. Following is Stallons' bio:

2008: Member of the team at Wisconsin.

2007: Redshirted at Wisconsin.

High School: Ranked among top 80 quarterbacks in the nation by Scouts, Inc. ... rated among top 80 players in the Midwest by SuperPrep ... an All-Midwest Region selection by PrepStar ... rated by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 32 "pro style" QB and the No. 20 player in Michigan ... earned first-team all-state, All-Metro East and all-conference honors while serving as team captain in 2006 ... starting QB in State of Michigan High School All-Star East-West game ... helped lead team to Division I state title as a senior, while completing 63 percent of his passes for 2,300 yards and 25 TDs ... career prep passing totals included completing 61 percent for 8,400 yards and 89 TDs ... honor roll student ...coach was Mike Giannone ... also lettered in basketball and baseball ... an all-district baseball player as a freshman and sophomore and was a basketball offensive player of the year as freshman and sophomore.
