Allendale, Mich. - Former Laker football players were timed and tested today in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Dozens of NFL scouts gathered on the track to poke and prod each athlete as they got their first up close view at the Lakers before the NFL Draft. The players lifted the standard 225 pounds, ran the 40 yard dash, the three cone drill, and the shuttle run. They also had their height, weight, broad jump, and vertical jump measured.
Cullen Finnerty, Mike McFadden, and Eric Fowler were the main attractions at the event, while Astin Martin, Buster Larkins, Derrick Jones, and Terry Mitchell also participated hoping for a chance to impress an NFL team. There were a few other local players from Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State.
This was the first NFL testing day held on Grand Valley's campus since 2002 when NFL scouts tested David Kircus and Curt Anes. Kircus and Anes would both earn opportunities to play for the Lions.
