Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State football program handed out its annual team awards at the 2006 Senior Awards Banquet at the Amway Grand Plaza Ballroom Sunday (Feb. 11) afternoon. A crowd of more than 350 attended the event that is held following each season to honor the Laker football team award winners and the graduating seniors. Twelve Laker seniors were honored by their position coaches during the event.

QB Cullen Finnerty was named the Todd Jager Player of the Year for the Laker football team. The player of the year award was named after former Grand Valley State head athletic trainer Todd Jager who passed away in January following a two-year battle with brain cancer. WR Eric Fowler was named the GVSU Most Valuable Offensive Player, while LB Anthony Adams was honored as the Most Valuable Defensive Player. Following is a list of the award winners voted on by the 2006 NCAA DII National Championship Laker football team.

Special Teams Player of the Year - WR Mark Catlin

Defensive Skill Player of the Year - CB Brandon Carr

Philip Schulze Dedication Award - DB Sean Roland

Offensive Lineman of the Year - OT Brandon Barnes

Defensive Lineman of the Year - DL Mike McFadden

Most Valuable Offensive Player - WR Eric Fowler

Most Valuable Defensive Player - LB Anthony Adams
