GVSU-Michigan Tech Game Called Due To Weather

Head coach Chuck Martin leads GVSU to its first GLIAC Title since 2002.

Nov. 6, 2005

Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State-Michigan Tech football game Saturday night in Allendale, Mich. was declared a No Contest at 12:15 AM due to lightning. Grand Valley State led 7-3 and was on the Michigan Tech three-yard line with 8:12 left in the second quarter when the game was called. The game was delayed from a 7 PM start back to 8:53 due to lightning and was delayed again at 9:30 just as the first quarter ended with GVSU leading 7-0. MTU opened the second quarter with a drive that resulted in a 22-yard field goal, but the Lakers drove back down the field and had a 1st and goal when lightning was detected again in a close proximity to Lubbers Stadium.

Grand Valley State claims the 2005 GLIAC Title with a 9-0 mark both overall and in GLIAC action. The perfect 9-0 season is just the fourth undefeated regular season in school history. GVSU will now await the 1 PM NCAA Selection show on ESPN News to see what their fate is for the NCAA DII Playoffs. #1-Ranked GVSU entered the Michigan Tech game seeded first in the NCAA DII Northwest Regional rankings.
