Allendale, Mich. - After a 10-day layoff for the Grand Valley State men's basketball team, the Lakers take the court again on Thursday (Dec. 29) in the 38th Annual Porreco Cup in Erie, Pa. GVSU returns to the home gymnasium of former GLIAC member Gannon for a pair of games in the four-team tournament on Thursday and Friday (Dec. 30).
Grand Valley State is riding a three-game winning streak, which features a pair of wins on consecutive days against conference foes Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech on Dec. 18-19. The last time GVSU played was on Dec. 19 when the Lakers outlasted MTU in a 70-68 overtime battle. Shooting guard James Thomas buried a three-pointer with 14 seconds left in the extra session to knock off Michigan Tech, which was previously 4-0 in GLIAC play. With the victory, Grand Valley State is 7-2 on the year and 4-1 in the conference.
The Lakers take on Seton Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night in Gannon's Hammermill Center. Seton Hill, a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) is 3-4 this season, 3-2 in league play. GVSU and Seton Hill have never played before Thursday's meeting.
