Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State head coach Ric Wesley recently announced the signing of Luke Ryskamp to a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Lakers starting in 2013-14. Ryskamp is currently a senior at Schoolcraft High School.
A 6'3" shooting guard, Ryskamp will be a four-year varsity starter for the Eagles, where he helped Schoolcraft finish 27-0 in 2010-11 and win the Class C state championship that season. During his first three seasons at Schoolcraft, Ryskamp and the Eagles totaled a 68-7 overall record.
A First Team all-state selection, Ryskamp averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds in 2011-12, when Schoolcraft went 22-5 and won the district and regional titles. The Eagles advanced to the state semifinals last season. In the state championship season of 2010-11, Ryskamp provided 17 points and eight rebounds per game. Schoolcraft took home conference, district, and regional titles en route to the 27-0 campaign.
As a freshman, Ryskamp notched 12 points, four boards, and two blocks per game as his team went 19-2 and won the Kalamazoo Valley Association championship. Ryskamp, a two-year varsity captain, eclipsed the 1,000-point mark during his junior year and was named the Kalamazoo Gazette Player of the Year that same season.
Ryskamp is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). His sister, Erika, was a four-year starter for the GVSU women's basketball team and is the sixth-leading scorer in school history. She was a member of the 2005-06 Division II National Championship team.
