Grand Valley State University head men's basketball coach Ric Wesley has named Jason Larson an assistant coach for the 2004-05 season. Larson has served as a student assistant for the Laker basketball team for the past four years.

"I have really been impressed with the job Coach Larson has done during the transition from the previous coaching staff," said Wesley. "His knowledge of the league and players as well the university system has really been helpful since I took the job this spring."

"He is a young, energetic coach with a bright future," added Wesley.

"I am excited to learn a new system under Coach Wesley and work at a university I really believe in," said Larson. "I have enjoyed working with the guys on the team and look forward to helping them continue to develop as student-athletes at GVSU."

Larson has been a camp coach at the University of Michigan, Central Michigan, Oakland University and at Grand Valley. He has also been in charge of GVSU's individual workouts since March. Jason played basketball for four years at Manistee High School under head coach Doug Schlaf. He also played football for four season and was an All-WWAC honoree.

Jason will be graduating from Grand Valley this summer with a bachelor's of arts in broadcasting with a Spanish minor. Larson will pursue his master's in business administration at GVSU starting in the fall.
