GVSU's Pete Trammell Named First-Team All-GLIAC North

Bay City, Mich. - BAY CITY, Mich. -- Senior forward Pete Trammell (Jenison, Mich.) has been named First-Team All-GLIAC North for the second straight year, while sophomore forward Justin Ringler (Reed City, Mich.) was named to the All-GLIAC North Second-Team it was announced by the GLIAC office in Bay City Thursday. Trammell also earned his second straight North Division All-Defensive team honors, while Ringler was named to the All-Defensive team for the first time. Grand Valley State will square off against Lake Superior State Friday, March 6 at 8 p.m. in GLAIC Tournament semifinal action.

Trammell earned All-GLIAC North honors for the second straight year by averaging career-high totals in points (13.6) and rebounds (5.0). In addition, Trammell led the team in three-pointers made (45) and free throws made (108), while connecting on 47.3 percent (14-241) from the field and 77.7 percent from the charity stripe (108-139). Trammell, who was Named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week twice during the 2008-09 campaign, scored in double figures 20 times this season and is averaging 22.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in his last five games. Pete moved into 25th on the GVSU all-time scoring list (1,151) and ninth on the all-time made three-pointers list (141) during his senior season. Trammell also became the winningest four-year player in Laker basketball history by leading GVSU to a 110-17 overall mark during his four-year career three-GLIAC North titles, two GLIAC Tournament titles and two NCAA DII Elite Eight appearances.

Ringler tallied a career-high 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game during his sophomore campaign. He hit 50.0 percent from the floor (122-244) and 72.2 percent from the charity stripe (91-126), while ranking second on the team in assists (70) and steals (36). Justin scored in double figures 16 times, including a career-high 30 points versus Northwood and notched a team-high three double-doubles.
 

 

Trammell and Ringler were key figures in the Lakers' stingy defense during the 2008-09 campaign. GVSU leads the GLIAC in field goal percentage defense (40.1), while ranking second in scoring defense (63.6 ppg). GVSU also leads the GLIAC and ranks sixth in the nation in rebounding margin (+9.3).

Findlay enior forward Josh Bostic (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) was selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's basketball "Player of the Year." Rookie guard Raymont McElroy (Milwaukee, Wis./South) of Northern Michigan University was chosen as "Freshman of the Year," while Findlay head coach Ron Niekamp earned GLIAC "Coach of the Year" honors. All three were selected by the GLIAC men's basketball coaches in conjunction with all-conference balloting.
