Allendale, Mich. - After defeating rival Ferris State 81-73 on Saturday night (Mar. 2) in the regular season finale, the Grand Valley State men's basketball team earned a first-round GLIAC Tournament home game. The Lakers, the #4 seed in this week's conference tournament, will host Hillsdale in GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on Wednesday night (Mar. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
The Grand Valley State-Hillsdale matchup is one of four GLIAC quarterfinal games being played on Wednesday night. Here is the opening round schedule for the conference tournament:
#7 Northwood at #2 Michigan Tech, 5:30 p.m.
#8 Lake Superior State at #1 Wayne State, 6:00 p.m.
#6 Ferris State at #3 Findlay, 6:00 p.m.
#5 Hillsdale at #4 Grand Valley State, 7:00 p.m.
GVSU and Hillsdale have met just once this season - the Lakers captured a 67-58 win at Hillsdale on Dec. 15. Overall, Grand Valley State is 18-8 this season with a 15-7 GLIAC record, while the Chargers are 17-9 overall and 13-9 in league games.
The four winning schools will compete in the semifinals and finals at the site of the highest remaining seed. Those games will take place this weekend (Mar. 9-10). The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament (Mar. 15-17).
