Allendale, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday that Grand Valley State senior center Callistus Eziukwu has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week. Eziukwu averaged 20.0 points and 5.5 rebounds as #2-ranked Grand Valley State claimed a pair of road wins in the U.P.

Eziukwu scored 21 points, pulled down five rebounds and recorded three steals as the Lakers recorded an 83-55 win at Northern Michigan. He then tallied 19 points, six rebounds and two steals in GVSU's 71-54 victory at Michigan Tech. Eziukwu, who currently ranks third in the GLIAC in field goal percentage (.648), connected on 68.0 percent of his shots from the floor (17-for-25) for the week.

Grand Valley State will host Tiffin University Tuesday (Jan. 8) at the GVSU Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

GVSU Notes...GVSU is holding opponents to just 54.9 points per game and GVSU has held 10-of-its-last-14 foes under 55 points, including four under 50 points...Laker opponents are shooting just 37.9 percent from the floor...Grand Valley State is outscoring the opposition by 21.1 points per game...Grand Valley State's 16-0 start is the best in school history. The 1976-77 hoops squad was 15-1 after 16 games...Jason Jamerson ranks 1st in Laker annals in three-pointers made (250), 9th in points scored with 1,421 points and 6th in all-time steals (150). Jamerson needs 66 points to move into fifth in career scoring...Callistus Eziukwu moved into the eighth spot in all-time points scored with 1,319. Eziukwu is 8th in career rebounds with 722 and first in all-time blocks with 272...His 272 blocked shots ranks 11th all-time in DII...Ric Wesley, who is in his fourth year as head men's basketball coach, upped his record to 90-19 overall.
