Allendale, Mich. - Senior forward Marcus Wallace hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to close the first half and the Lakers then outscored Ashland 36-21 in the second half en route to a 62-44 GLIAC victory Thursday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play, while Ashland falls to 4-2 and 0-1.

Grand Valley State led 26-23 at the half and opened the second half with a 13-4 run to build a 39-27 lead. GVSU shot a sizzling 55.6 percent from the floor (15-27) in the second half, including 5-of-8 three-pointers. The Lakers built their largest lead of the game, 60-39, on a Jason Jamerson jumper with 4:54 remaining. GVSU limited Ashland to just four second half buckets (4-24), while shooting 16.7 percent. The Eagles shot 23.6 percent for the game.

Freshman guard Jason Jamerson was 0-5 from the floor in the first half, but turned in a stellar second half with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Callistus Eziukwu scored 18 points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked six shots, while Mike Hall added 12 points. Marcus Wallace pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, scored five points, dished out four assists and recorded five steals.

Grand Valley State will host Aquinas College Saturday night at 7 p.m.
