Lock Haven, Pa. - Grand Valley State opened the 2004-05 men's basketball season in fine fashion Monday (Nov. 15) with an 82-60 victory at PSAC foe Lock Haven. GVSU, under the direction of first-year head coach Ric Wesley, moves to 1-0 on the year and will return to action Saturdy (Nov. 20) at IPFW. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. and all of the action can be heard live on WMFN AM 640.

Grand Valley State jumped out to a 34-29 halftime lead and then opened the second half with a 20-2 run to build a 54-31 lead. Eight quick points by Lock Haven followed, however, GVSU quickly regrouped and built the lead back to 21 points.

Grand Valley State received key contributions from newcomers and key returnees en route to the win. In addition to first-year head coach Ric Wesley, freshmen Jason Jamerson and Callistus Eziukwu were key in the win. Eziukwu scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Jamerson contributed 15 pionts and hit a pair of treys. Senior Marcus Wallace chipped in 12 points and brother Jerry Wallace added 10. Sophomore Brian Arnold dished out a team-high seven assists.

GVSU shot a sizzling 59.3 percent (32-54)for the game and 69.2 (18-26) in the second half. The Lakers dished out 26 assists and outrebounded LH 36-26.
