Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State was hitting on all cylinders Thursday (Feb. 26) night in a convincing 83-63 victory over 18th-ranked Michigan Tech at the Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU (14-12, 6-11) will host Northern Michigan Saturday in the final game of the 2003-04 season at 3 p.m.

GVSU jumped out to a 20-9 lead and never looked back en route to the 20-point win. The Lakers scored the final nine points of the first half and built a 44-31 lead after 20 minutes when Courtney James hit a running layup in the final seconds. MTU trailed 62-54 after a pair of Jason Marcotte free throws, but GVSU went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to build a 74-54 lead with 4:22 left.

Junior center Eric Chess led four players in double figures with 21 points and eight rebounds. Marcus Wallace and Courtney James each added 15 points, while Mike Hall chipped in 11 points. GVSU hit 18-of-22 free throws and outrebounded MTU 42-23.
