Grand Valley State's men's basketball team upset #1 Michigan Tech, 42-40, in Houghton Thursday. GVSU snapped Michigan Tech's 15 game winning streak and handed the Huskies their first GLIAC loss in their last 27 matchups. The Lakers improve to 13-12 overall and 8-9 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech falls to 24-2 overall and 16-1 in GLIAC action.

The Lakers trailed 19-18 at the half, but were led by freshman guard Jerry Wallace in the second half to pull off the upset. Wallace connected on five three-pointers, scoring 17 total points. Courtney James scored nine points and added four assists. Jason Bauer added eight rebounds for the Lakers.

Michigan Tech led 36-35 when Wallace hit a three-pointer to put the Lakers up by two with 2:37 left in the game. With 1:40 remaining Wallace drained another three-pointer to give GVSU a five point lead, which was enough to seal the victory. The Lakers held MTU to 35.4% shooting for the game and forced 13 turnovers, while only committing seven.

Grand Valley will play at Northern Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3:00 p.m.
