Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - Grand Valley State junior center Eric Chess led GVSU with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 79-67 GLIAC road victory Monday (Feb. 9) night in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. GVSU improves to 12-10 overall and 4-9 in GLIAC play, while LSSU falls to 8-15 and 1-12.

GVSU jumped out to a 40-31 halftime lead and never looked back. The Lakers connected on 21-of-34 free throws and hit 8-of-20 three-pointers, while outrebounding LSSU 44-42. In addition, to Chess' double-double, Marcus Wallace added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Melvin White chipped in 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the three-point line. Jerry Wallace added nine points on three trey's.

Grand Valley State will host Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 14) at 8 p.m.
