Chicago, Ill. - Former Grand Valley State baseball and basketball player, Matt Thornton, participated in Major League Baseball's 2008 postseason for the Chicago White Sox. Thornton, who is in his third year with the White Sox, saw action in two of the White Sox's four American League Divisional Playoff games with the Tampa Rays. Thornton appeared in 74 games for Chicago in 2008, recording a 5-3 record with a 2.67 ERA. Matt tallied 77 strikeouts and walked just 19 in 67.1 innings of work.
