Former Grand Valley State University pitcher Matt Thornton make his major league debut on Sunday, June 27, 2004. Thorton pitched four innings in relief, allowing just three hits and no runs. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the first round of the 1998 major league draft. Thornton was the 22nd overall pick and was GVSU's first-ever first-round selection.
