Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State junior 1B Joe Brunink was drafted by thePhiladelphia Phillies in the 15th round Wednesday. Brunink, who was the NCAA DII North Central Regional MVP and a First-Team All-GLIAC choice in 2003, is the second GVSU player to be drafted in the top 20 rounds the last two years. Dustin Vugteveen was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 19th round in 2001, while LHP Matt Thorton was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the first round with the 22nd pick in 1998.

Grand Valley State (41-14), the 2003 North Central Regional Champions, concluded the season with a fifth-place finish in its first-ever NCAA DII World Series appearance. The Lakers finished the eight-team tourney with a 1-2 record.
