Allendale, Mich. - Senior 2B Kyle Gendron (Dearborn, Mich.), sophomore CF Cody Grice (DeWitt, Mich.) and junior RHP Joe Jablonski (Temperence, Mich./Bedford) have reaped postseason honors following the 2010 baseball season. All three GVSU student-athletes have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Midwest Region First-Teams it was announced Wednesday. In addition, junior SS Andrew Trepel was named the NCBWA All-Midwest Second-Team. Grice and Gendron are both making their second straight appearances on the ABCA and NCBWA All-Region teams.
Grice hit .455 with 18 doubles, five triples and six home runs. His 100 hits established a GLIAC and GVSU single-season record. Grice, who tallied a .664 slugging percentage and a .506 on base percentage, drove in 49 runs and scored 66 runs. Cody was also 18-20 in stolen base attempts. Gendron hit .381 with 74 hits and a team-high 50 RBI. Kyle scored 40 runs, hit 15 doubles, seven home runs and two triples. Jablonski turned in an 8-3 record with a team-low 3.33 ERA in 14 appearances and 12 starts. Joe struck out 56 batters and yielded 40 runs, 30 of which were earned, in 81.0 innings pitched. He tossed five complete games and recorded two shutouts on the year. Trepel hit .360 with 68 hits, 36 RBI and 34 runs scored.
Grand Valley State finished the 2010 campaign with a 37-16 record and advanced to the NCAA DII Midwest Regional title game for the seventh time in the last eight years. GVSU is one of three teams in all of DII baseball to appear in each of the last nine NCAA Tournaments (Central Missouri and Tampa).
