Lakers Advance To NCAA DII North Central Regional For Fourth Straight Year

Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State baseball team received word late Sunday that they will get the opportunity to defend their NCAA DII North Central Regional crown starting this Thursday (May 19) at St. Joseph's College in Rennselear, Ind. GVSU, seeded number three, will square off against second-seeded Wisconsin-Parkside at a time to be determined. The top seed and host St. Joseph's College Pumas will square off against Wayne State. in other first-round action.

Grand Valley State (31-14) captured its third straight GLIAC Championship last Saturday with a 9-4 win over Findlay in the GLIAC Tournament title game. The Lakers also captured their third straight GLIAC Tournament title and have now won eight straight GLIAC tournament games. GVSU has won each of the last two NCAA DII North Central Regional Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA DII World Series following both tourney titles. The lakers placed fifth in 2003 before advancing to the NCAA DII National Championship game a year ago in Montgomery, Alabama. Futher details on the 2005 North Central Regional Tournament will be posted when they become available.
