Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State is ranked #3 in the lastest DII Collegiate Baseball Coaches Poll that was released Tuesday. The #3 national ranking is the highest-ever regular season national ranking in Laker baseball history. GVSU finished the 2004 season #2 after advancing to the National Championship game. The Lakers are 44-8 on the year and set to host the 2006 GLIAC Tournament May 11-13.

Grand Valley State has earned the #1 seed and the right to host the 2006 GLIAC Baseball Tournament after capturing the regular season title with a 28-3 GLIAC record. The tournament will open up at 11 am on Thursday, May 11 as the second-seeded Ashland Eagles will take on the third-seeded Mercyhurst Lakers. GVSU will then take on the fourth-seeded Wayne State Warriors in a nine inning contest beginning at 3 pm. Grand Valley State has captured the previous three GLIAC Tournament titles and will host the tournament for the first time since 2003.

Results will be posted on gvsulakers.com along with GLIAC Baseball following each game. The tournament schedule follows:

Thursday, May 11 Game 1: #2 Ashland vs. #3 Mercyhurst, 11 am Game 2: #1 Grand Valley State vs. #4 Wayne State, 3 pm

Friday, May 12 Game 3: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, 10 am Game 4: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 1 pm Game 5: Winner Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3, 4 pm

Saturday, May 13 Game 6: Championship Game, Noon Game 7: If Necessary, 30 minutes following
