Midland, Mich. - Junior third baseman Lee VanStreain (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) was named the GLIAC player of the week after posting a .611 batting average as the Lakers went 6-0 including a weekend road sweep against #14 Ashland. The Lakers will take on Wayne State on Thursday, May 11 in the GLIAC Tournament.

Lee VanStreain paced the Laker offense to a perfect 6-0 week, including a road sweep of #14 Ashland. VanStreain improved his GLIAC-best batting average to .459 as he went 11-18 (.611) with eight runs scored and seven RBI. After going 5-6 with four runs scored and an RBI in GVSU's doubleheader sweep against Hillsdale, he kept his hot hitting going into the weekend, going 6-12 at the plate with six RBI and four runs scored in the four-game sweep of the Eagles, helping GVSU claim the GLIAC regular-season crown.

VanStreain is the third Laker to earn GLIAC Player of the Week honors on the year. C Nick Smith and CF Jeff Carrero were named in back-to-back weeks on March 14 and 20. VanStreain's .459 batting average currently ranks as the highest in school history.
