Allendale, Mich. - Senior pitcher Phil Mixter was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week it was announced by the league office in Bay City, Mich. Monday. 18th-ranked Grand Valley State will open play in the GLIAC Tournament Thursday at 12 noon versus Saginaw Valley State at Ashland University.

Senior pitcher Phil Mixter tossed a five-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts versus Gannon on the final day of the regular season, helping the Lakers clinch second-place in the GLIAC regular-season standings. Mixter, a GLIAC First-Team honoree a year ago, finished the regular season with a team-high 70 strikeouts in 59.2 innings pitched. Mixter is 5-2 on the year with 3.77 ERA. He ranks among the GLIAC's top ten in several categories, including ERA (9th), opp. batting avg. (4th), and strike outs (2nd).
