Detroit, Mich. - Grand Valley State claimed a 9-4 GLIAC victory over Wayne State Sunday afternoon in Detroit, Mich. GVSU finished 38-13-1 overall and 20-11-1 in GLIAC action. Grand Valley State will now square off against Northwood in GLIAC Tournament action Thursday, May 7 in Chillicothe, Ohio. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

GVSU struck first in the top of the third as CF Casey Robrahn walked with two outs. RF Cody Grice followed with a single to left and SS Brad Raj drilled a two-run double to left center. Wayne State answered with three runs in the bottom half of the third on three hits to take a 3-2 lead. WSU added a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

2B Kyle Gendron led off the eighth with a single to left. 1B Cory Maguire sacraficed Gendron to second and reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Robrahn singled to right to load the bases and Grice hit a two-run double to center. Raj plated two more runs on a single and advanced to third on an error by the left fielder. C Bobby Walmsley hit a sacrafice fly to score Raj and five GVSU a 7-4 lead. The Lakers added on two runs with a hit and two Warrior errors in the top of the ninth for the final margin.

Andre Benjamin went the first four innings, yielding three runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Ben Knuth followed with two innings of work, while Matt Cade picked up the win (7-0) by pitching two scoreless innings. RP David Bowman collected his second save of the week by pitching a hitless ninth.
 

 

Raj was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Grice turned in a 3-for-4 outing with two RBIs and three runs scored. Robrahn was 3-for-4 with two runs.
