Edmond, Ok. - Grand Valley State lost a pair at #12 University of Central Oklahoma on Friday to snap the Lakers' six-game winning streak. The Branchos took game one 7-2 and earned a 7-0 victory in game two on their home field in Edmond, Oklahoma. UCO used a four-run second inning to take control of game one as they held the Lakers to three hits. GVSU outhit the Central Oklahoma 7-6 in game two but were unable to push across a run. The Lakers fall to 6-3 on the season while UCO improves to 7-3.
Matt Wright was 1-for-2 in the first game with a run scored, while Joe Brunink and Joe Mertes picked up the other hits. Nick Bultema (0-2) took the loss on the mound giving up three earned runs in 4.1 innings. Doug Fox and David Nitz threw 1.2 of scoreless relief for GVSU.
The Bronchos started off the second game with four runs in the first inning which ended up being enough for the win. Elijah Beckwith was 3-for-3 to lead the GVSU offensive attack. Phil Mixter (1-1) pitched the first 3.1 innings giving up five runs on five hits, while striking out two.
GVSU finishes up their spring trip on Saturday against Licoln University of Missouri.
