Pittsburg, Kan. - Grand Valley State (3-3) dropped a doubleheader at Pittsburg State Tuesday (March 2) afternoon at Al Ortolani Field in Pittsburg, Kan. The Gorillas claimed a 16-10 win in game one, followed by a 6-2 win in the nightcap.
GVSU jumped out to a 10-4 lead, scoring two in the first, one in the second, four in the third and three more in the fourth, but Pittsburg State exploded for 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sean McCloud (1-1) was tagged with the loss. LF Scott Allen was 3-4, with three runs scored and three RBI. RF Joe Mertes was 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while C Elijah Beckwith was 2-4 with three RBIs. GVSU collected 13 hits, but five Laker errors contributed to the Pittsburg State run output.
In game two, PSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Lakers pulled to within two with a two-run third inning. The Gorillas added single runs in the third and sixth to secure the win. Kyle Cox was solid on the hill despite taking the loss. He yielded six runs, two of which were earned, in six innings of work. LF Scott Allen was 3-4 with one run scored. 1B Tim Hudnall was 1-3 with an RBI.
Grand Valley State is scheduled to play Findlay Wednesday (March 3).
