Ryan Lyster is in his second season as a graduate assistant for the Laker baseball program.

Lyster is a former shortstop for GVSU, playing the 2004 and 2005 seasons which saw the Lakers advance to the College World Series in both years, reaching the championship game in 2004.

Lyster was a First-Team All-GLIAC shortstop in 2004 after hitting .331 with 46 runs scored, 21 RBI and a .398 on-base percentage. His 150 assists on the year is the second-best single-season total in Laker history.

Lyster also garnered honorable mention All-GLIAC honors in 2005 after scoring 34 runs and driving in 18. His 145 assists that year is still the sixth-best single-season total in GVSU history.

Lyster also spent two seasons at Grand Rapids Community College where his squad won the 2003 Junior College National Championship and he was named to the JC World Series All-Tournament Team.
