ALLENDALE, Mich. - Four Grand Valley State track and field/cross country student-athletes have been honored as Capital One Academic All-District honorees for their work done in the classroom and their accomplishments on the field of play.
Isaacson earned the honor as a double major in both music and physical education. Isaacson finished 33rd at the 2012 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship with a time of 30:15.2 to lead the men to a seventh-place team finish to earn USTFCCCA All-American honors and was a 2013 NCAA Division II Steeplechase provisional qualifier.
Galasso, a biomedical science major, is a four-time USTFCCCA Indoor All-American and was a 2011 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-American. She helped the distance medley relay team to a 2012 indoor national title and has qualified for the Division II National Championships eight times in three different events. She has been part of four NCAA Division II National Championship team and is a three-time GLIAC individual champion.
Hixson majors in finance and is one of the most decorated female pole vaulters in history. She is a two-time NCAA Division II individual national champion (2012 indoor and outdoor) and six-time USTFCCCA All-American. She has been a part of four NCAA Division II National Championship teams and has been a top-two finisher at every indoor and outdoor GLIAC Championship meet she has participated in, including two GLIAC Outdoor Championships (2012 and 2011).
Kinney is a nursing major and just finished up her career as a Laker. She is a two-time NCAA Division II National Champion, winning the 5,000 meter run and mile run at the 2011 indoor championships. She has been part of six NCAA Division II National Championship teams and is a nine-time USTFCCCA Division II All-American on the track, including six indoor honors and three outdoor honors. She also won five GLIAC indoor championships and one GLIAC outdoor championship.
To be eligible for Academic All-District or All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
