Athletics - Grand Valley State

The mission of the Irwin Club, named after GVSU's first athletic director, Charles H. Irwin, is to provide both moral and financial support for intercollegiate athletics at GVSU. Membership is open to alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of Laker Athletics. Contributions to the Irwin Fund help us with the little "extras" that have made the Laker Athletics program the best in the country in NCAA Division II. Some of those things are:

● Assisting with our recruiting efforts above and beyond the norm (e.g. out of state visits).
● Assisting with the purchase of new uniforms for our teams.
● Assisting with "special" team travel needs that help us greatly in our recruiting efforts.
● Classy championship banners to proudly display in our facilities.
● Assisting with the purchase of special sports-related equipment, as well as facilities enhancers, such as a new batter's eye at the baseball field.
● Assisting with providing funding for professional development for our coaches.

All of these things directly contribute to our recruiting efforts and/or the development of our student-athletes and teams.

"I am so grateful for the Charles and Florence Irwin Scholarship because of the financial support it offered me. As a student athlete I have been challenged in many different ways and without the support from one of Grand Valley State's scholarship donors I would not have been able to accomplish all my goals. With the help of this scholarship I will be graduating with a degree in movement science and moving into a career supporting cardiovascular health. The gift of this scholarship was so important in my academic degree. I will continue to be very thankful for the generosity of the donors." -Lynsey Ardingo, XC and Track
