The mission of the Irwin Club, named after GVSU's first athletic director, Charles H. Irwin, is to provide both moral and financial support for intercollegiate athletics at GVSU. Membership is open to alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of Laker Athletics. Contributions to the Irwin Fund help us with the little "extras" that have made the Laker Athletics program the best in the country in NCAA Division II. Some of those things are:|
● Assisting with our recruiting efforts above and beyond the norm (e.g. out of state visits).
All of these things directly contribute to our recruiting efforts and/or the development of our student-athletes and teams.
"The Irwin Fund has helped to allow our baseball program to upgrade our outdoor facilities along with giving our student-athletes the opportunity to play the best Division II competition in the country." GVSU Head Baseball Coach, Steven Lyon|
"As one of the pioneers of Laker Athletics, it gives me a great sense of pride to see what we have evolved into. The resources that the Irwin Club generates supporting Laker Athletics have been a very important part of the success we see today." Jim Schaap, Football Alumni
"The Irwin Scholarship has helped fulfill my educational needs and has given me the opportunity to grow as a student-athlete and person." Kim Wyngaard, Basketball Alumni
"I am so grateful for the Charles and Florence Irwin Scholarship because of the financial support it offered me. As a student athlete I have been challenged in many different ways and without the support from one of Grand Valley State's scholarship donors I would not have been able to accomplish all my goals. With the help of this scholarship I will be graduating with a degree in movement science and moving into a career supporting cardiovascular health. The gift of this scholarship was so important in my academic degree. I will continue to be very thankful for the generosity of the donors." -Lynsey Ardingo, XC and Track
