June 1, 2007

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State Director of Athletics, Tim Selgo, announced the hiring of Mark Stoessner as the Head Athletic Trainer at Grand Valley State. Stoessner will begin his duties at Grand Valley State July 1st.

"We are extremely excited to have Mark join Grand Valley State and our athletics program," said Selgo. "Mark comes from an outstanding athletic training program at the University of Michigan and has working knowledge of the GLIAC with his ties to Northern Michigan University as the Coordinator of Athletic Training," added Selgo.

Stoessner was an assistant athletic trainer at Michigan from 2001-2004, before taking over as the Coordinator of Athletic Medicine for the Wolverines in 2004. In addition to his responsibilities in athletic training, Stoessner was an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join Grand Valley State University," said Stoessner. "My family and I are looking forward to living in the West Michigan area and I am excited to be back in a role as a head athletic trainer. Grand Valley State is an outstanding institution with a tradition of excellence in both academics and athletics," added Stoessner.

Prior to joining the University of Michigan in 2001, Mark was the head athletic trainer at Northern Michigan from 1988-2001. Stoessner received his Master of Arts degree from Northern Michigan in 1988 and his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green in 1986.

A native of Ravenna, Ohio, Stoessner and his wife, Becky, are the proud parents of sons Jeremy (11) and Joshua (7). Mark is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainers Association.
